Z-drift in display (linux)

I have an annoying problem of Z-axis drift when working in the display. Any type or rotation (left mouse) leads to a drop in the relative view with respect to the model (i.e. model and build plate begin to rise off the top of the screen). This is not a mouse issue. I have only seen this on linux systems.

This is still a bug 2 years later! It's not just Linux, I'm using a Mac, but yes I know it's nix based.
It's a bloody annoying bug, constantly having to drag the model back into view after simply rotating it, even returning the rotation back to its original orientation leaves the model off screen.
