Profile management

Does anyone else find the profile management a bit annoying.

I have a duel extruder and I have several types of plastics. So I'd like a profile for
1) left plastic 1
2) left plastic 2
3) right plastic 3
4) right plastic 4
etc.

The issue is, if I create a profile, tweak it, then
create a new project/object and want to use a different process, if I've changed anything with the first process asks you to export it. Couldn't it just save the settings on that profile the way they were?
If you don't re-export it you lose your settings on that profile. OK, so fine, you decide to re-export it.
Now you go to your 1st profile tweak etc to print an object and you have to repeat the annoying save process to go back to the 2nd profile.
Ok so you annoying export again so you don't lose stuff.
Now you decide to go back to profile two again. The settings aren't the ones you exported though, they're the original ones. So if you want your tweaked settings you have to import again. Well now you have two profiles when you really just wanted one.
Uhgggg.
Seriously needs a usability revision.

This isn't too big an issue if you just changed your infill and support settings (just ignore and lose them and reset them next object anyway) but it's a pain in the ** if you are trying to calibrate your extruders and are switching back and forth between the processes.

Re: Profile management

i can see what your saying but i personally would not want it to auto save and overwrite my profile. what if i didnt like the changes and i wanted to get back to my original profile i had saved. i would not be able to because it would be overwritten. i think the saving of profiles works fairly easy. the save button does a save to a temp file and if you want to make a permanent profile you just export it. not saying there isnt a way but im not really sure how s3d could change it to make it work any easier.

Re: Profile management

I guess in the mean time if you make a change you like and decide to make perminent you:

1) Export the profile.
2) delete the one you just left.

Seems at least there could be an overwrite button or something.

Re: Profile management

And then there is the whole deal with the factory files. It's great they save all your settings and all, I see the point. But suppose you tweak your setup gcode or your build height (like you installed a glass plate) Now you have to edit every single factory file to try to get all the profiles back in sync.

Re: Profile management

i personally dont use the factory thing too often. here and there. i think it makes it nice to have a single file if you want to send something to another s3d user or post it on a forum like this one. the model and settings are all there. makes it easy i guess. for the most part i use profiles tailored to the plastic and layer height i want. i keep them all in a "profiles" folder. just load the one i need and go. if i fine tune the profile i will use the save button and make a couple prints with it. if i like the changes i just export the process and overwrite the old one or rename it and make another.
