The installer doesn't overwrite the previous installation. It's a whole new installation. You're most likely still starting the older version.

This is true also on Windows, and like bertus oud said, the installer does not overwrite previous installations, it installs a new. I find that useful at times, you can always start the older versions if you like to.

1) Wow, that shows real confidence in your product update.
2) Thank goodness given all the apparent issues. I might even bother to try it now before 4.1.1. ships.

Ok, so I just downloaded and installed 4.1.1 but everything is showing as 4.1.0 when opening S3D and it pops up a message saying that a new version (4.1.1) is available. repeat, same results.
Any ideas?

You are most likely using the same shortcut as previous to installing 4.1.1, thus you are opening the old version.
If you are on a Mac you find all the installed versions if you go to 'Programs' in Finder, there there is a folder for each version you have installed. If you are on a Windows it is similar but I can't guide you there so maybe do a search in explorer?
