Slicer splitting 1st layer into 5 separate ones

Slicer is arbitrarily spltting the first layer of part into five layers of increasing size and trying to build them on top of eachother (see images of first 3 below).

I have tried using both an .STL and an .OBJ file and tried orienting the part both ways around the X-axis, yet the same problem occurs.

I anticipate the problem has something to do with the .STL file, but I am hoping there is a fix in S3D Creator I am missing. And if that's not the case, how do I improve the .STL file to print a single 1st layer?

Hello

I would say your part is slightly rotated about one axis. So the lowest surface is not parallel with the
bed. This causes the slicer to (correctly) make more layers.

Best regards

Chris

The issue is most likely as Chris state, where the plane or face you're printing on the bed is not completely "flat" and touching the build plate. If you double click the model, you can use the Z-Offset adjustment and lower it slightly so that the slicer will ignore the first few layers of your object when slicing it. If it is generating about 5 layers before, and assuming you're printing at .2mm layer height, try changing the z-offset to -1.2 and re-slice the model.

Thank you both for your replies, Chris and TenKOhms.

Both the explanation and solution proved very helpful as I was able to fix my print by adjusting the Z-offset by -1.2mm.

Cheers,

Kati
