Printer: makerbot replicator+ (purchased fall 2018)
Simplify3D ver: 4.1.1
makerbot software: makerbot print 3.3.5.502

Just bought new printer, all new to this. I am trying to open the ".makerbot" file saved from Simplify3d in the new makerbot print program. Makerbot print program is giving an error:

"Toolpath import failed"

"please select a printer that matches the bot_type toolpath is sliced for".

I'm using configuration assistant and choosing the "makerbot replicator+" profile in simplify3d.

Basically, I can't open the .makerbot files Simplify3d creates, inside the makerbot software.

facing off with the same issue here. It worked fine with the 5th gen model but no luck yet with the rep+

might do ok if someone has an idea how to edit the .makerbot file

No solution yet, but some progress:

the .makerbot file is just a .zip file

I sliced a 10mm cube with both S3D and MB Print and compared the two.

The meta.json file is wildly different in the S3D version from the MB version. I get the feeling that even if I added the "bot_type" to the meta file to get past that error there would likely be several more hurdles to jump.

Attaching the two files for comparison. just open the meta.json with notepad.

Works fine if I save the file to a stick and take it to the makerbot but will not send over the internet to the printer

We have this printer in our office. I can confirm that you will need to add the bot_type in order to have MakerBot's software accept the file.

This is good news and seems like the best way around the issue. Going to try it out tomorrow.

Same problem here. The suggested USB stick workaround does work, but it's not exactly an ideal solution, and not sure if I want to keep this $149 software or not. Running some test prints now to see how they come out...

Have you contacted support? They're happy to help with any print quality issues you may run into when getting acquainted with Simplify3D. As I said earlier, we have this machine in our office. I'm confident our engineers can help you.
