Ender 3 - Stringing and Oozing

Image

Cura 3.6.0
normal "Draft" profile key settings that I can see:
0.2mm layer height
60mm/s (3600mm/min)
50% speed for outlines
200deg print temp, 60deg bed temp
100% Fan speed after first layer
100% flow
Retraction distance 5mm
Retraction speed 40mms (2400mm/min)
No Z hop

Image

Simplify 3D 4.1.1
attempted to mirror settings from Cura
0.2mm layer height
3600mm/min
50% speed for outlines
200deg print temp, 60deg bed temp
100% fan speed after first layer
100% flow (also tried 90% flow with no change)
Retraction distance 5mm (tried up to 12mm with no change)
Retraction speed 2400mm/min
no Z hop (Retraction Vertical lift)

Why does Cura gcode come out perfectly (as far as retraction goes) and Simplify3D's sucks?
Does anyone have known good settings for an Ender 3 and Simplify 3D? I googled but couldn't find much

Re: Ender 3 - Stringing and Oozing

Perimeter direction may be a cause here. If the end of outline loops in Simplify3D are on the outside, you're more likely to see ooze when hopping between islands unless you turn on wiping. I'd say try switching the outline ordering (layer tab).

That's a negative, reversed wall order and stringing remains exactly the same

Re: Ender 3 - Stringing and Oozing

Hi,

I can give you my settings.

metalic red pla filament (Das Filament)
0.2mm layer height
1500mm/min
75% speed for outlines
225deg print temp, 60deg bed temp
100% fan speed after first layer
100% flow
Retraction distance 6mm with 0.4 nozzle (now i print 3mm with 0.2 nozzle)
Retraction speed 3600mm/min
no Z hop
0.2 extra restart distance
0.4 coasting distance
1.0 wipe distance

Do you have still the same problem? Or have you solved the stringing? I whould be interested, what parameters solved it.

Cheers!

Re: Ender 3 - Stringing and Oozing

Hi!

I’m curious if you found the problem?

Me and my friend (cr10s & cr10s pro) has recently changed from cura to simplify3d. Everything works better with simplify3d except stringing / oozing. Doesn’t seems like any changes made to retraction makes any difference. I can se the extruder doing retractions but lots of strings.

Anyone else experienced this?

I started using simplify and I am amazed by how good the supports are and the ease to remove them. However, I am now experiencing stringing and I'm having trouble fixing them. My printer is Anycubic mega i3 with anycubic white PLA

Looking at the pictures of the Cura and the S3D prints, the extrusion show a lot more filament in the S3D one, i would give Extrusion multiplier a lower value. Even the tower looks much thicker.

Re: Ender 3 - Stringing and Oozing

Hello, just wondering if the original poster solved their problem? I recently started using Simplify3d over Cura, the software is great but Im having the same problem. I cant seem to remove the stringing when using Simplify3d, but no issues when using Cura. Ive tried replicating the Cura settings in Simplify and have done a ton of tests with different temps, ret speed, and ret distance. So Id love to hear if the OP solved the problem and what was the solution. Thanks!

Re: Ender 3 - Stringing and Oozing

Two things that I have done with S3D in this case:
Turn off vertical lift (extruder tab).
Do a wipe (extruder tab), and have the retract done during the wipe Advanced tab).
It can sometimes help to speed up the non-print move to reduce "drool time" in open air.
