When slicing an object, S3D is adding extremely short solid layer extrusions; sometimes as short as 0.0004 mm.
Note: This is an issue on both 4.0.1 and 4.1.1
About the print:
The print is a large hollow structure with MeshMixer supports. I exported the file to 3MF and used Netfabb to repair the file before slicing.
Exact print settings from gcode can be seen here: https://pastebin.com/7yFU0wcP
Troubleshooting so far:
None of these made a difference:
- Increasing Advanced (tab) Single Extrusions > Minimum Extrusion Length value
- Increasing Infill (tab) > General > Minimum Infill Length value
The title sums it up really. Here are some images of the problem:
Here is a single layer with some short extrusions:

Here is what it looks like across a few layers:

Technical Details:
I actually wrote a script to in an attempt to remove these short extrusions and had mixed results. Currently, it's too slow to be effective for large prints, but it also helped me see the scale of the problem. I configured it to remove any solid layer extrusion shorter than 1 mm and here was the result:
- Lines processed: 2,763,200
- Lines removed: 15,850
- Filament saved: 594.4701 mm

Question:
Is there a setting to resolve this or is this a known bug? I did a cursory search of the forum and FB group, but "Short extrusions" is a pretty ambiguous problem to search for.
