Simplify3D User Forum

I recently added a 0.2mm nozzle to my printer and was able to get it printing with relative ease. Simplify3D was very effective at at least guiding me to the settings to make it go without screwing up. Only problem now is the quality really doesn't look much better on small objects than what I was getting with the 0.4mm nozzle. My project is printing miniatures for DnD. Can anyone recommend some settings or presets to help get the right quality with a small nozzle?

I'm attaching pictures of the Extruder, Layer, and Additions pages, these are the only settings I actually changed. I've also discovered since this post that I have some bed-leveling issues to address.

Only thing I see right off is increase your first layer height to 120 or so otherwise you'll fight with it since the first layer will be so thin.

I also reduced my normal print speed for a 0.4mm nozzle from 40mm/s to 20mm/s for the 0.2

Where would I find the normal print speed setting?

Try 1200mm/m and go from there.

Start slow and refine other settings for a good print.
Once the print is acceptable you can increase speed as you wish until results are not satisfactory.

I think what I'm trying to figure out all the different settings that would affect smaller-scale printing. With the 0.4mm nozzle I have largely used the defaults for everything and been thrilled with the results. It's all a learning curve.

for D&D I found PLA worked better than ABS. Set you speed at 1800mmM or slower 1200mm/M would be ok as well. you only need 2 top 2 bottom and 2 shell layers. Set up supports is another story.. I will send you a link to some Factory D&D files I have printed when I get home this weekend. I printed about 250 models for a coworker as my first project (took a few months) but what you are doing is a great learning project. It took me over a month to get then hang of it. The really small ones will print better if you print 2 or 3 at once. Oh and try 1.4mm height .. .1 sounds like it would be better but i got stronger better looking results with taller layers that .1
Every model is different and supports are an art form in there on right.
