How can I change the tooling path?

I have the creator2 pro, one part I'm trying to print
Doesn't print the part right. It will build the corner
And when it goes to fill the rest of the part. It isn't close to the build platform so the part is stringy.

It might help if you post the stl here and give us a pic or two

Re: How can I change the tooling path?

Every time i try to print this it starts in a corner builds two to three layers of the corner before it tries to build the first full layer.
When it finally get to making more of the first layer its its 1mm off of the build platform.
i would like to change the tooling path so it can complete the full piece one layer at a time.
till build is complete.

If you closely you will see that the part is tipped upward slightly.
The one corner that is touching the bed is printing first.
You need to rotate the part so that the entire bottom is touching the bed.

Re: How can I change the tooling path?

Having a model that's not correctly oriented can cause this sort of problem. Slicers will always slice the model part that is closest to the build platform first. So if your model is slightly tilted with only one corner touching the build platform, than that corner will print first.

If orientation is not the problem and the model is correctly positioned, such as a flat square where all sides touch the build platform equally, then the slicer is free to chose where to start the print. For this case, Simplify3D lets you choose where to start a print. If you go to your process settings (in ADVANCED view), in the LAYER tab, there's a START POINT option. Here you can tell Simplify3D where you would like it to start drawing a layer.

This seems really another +1 for the feature request to lay a part flat. Man I use that all the time in other slicers. Annoying in S3D to have to sit and tweak by increments of a degree until I get it all the way on the build plate.

which slicers do you do this in?

The Stratasys software has had this feature for years. The new Craftware (beta) slicer has it also.

Looking a little closer at this particular part it wouldn't matter anyway. The whole part is curved, I assume so that it will have a friction fit with the mating part.
So in this case the best bet would be to either raise it up a little and put support under it, or print it on the edge (still would need support under it).

Re: How can I change the tooling path?

I've tried it flat on the box platform. I've tried it with a raft.
It print decent with RepG with raft, but the raft doesn't separate easily.
Will leave a surface that I'll have to sand.
Unlike the case, smooth surface no raft. Printed on a glass print bed.
I would like to print the whole first layer as one piece rather than 8 or 9 different
Sections. Thank you every one who has offered their input, I just looking to have this come out as smooth as the case.
