Random gaps and missing layers in supports

There is a universal gap at certain heights where support structures just aren't there. Sometimes these gaps are here, sometimes they aren't - sometimes they're at different heights than what's pictured. I don't change anything, I just hit 'exit preview' and hit generate again, and suddenly they'll be different again. What gives?
