File association screwed in win7 64bit and s3d 2.1.2

Suddenly i can't open stl's (by double clicking in explorer).
the file association is screwed, so i try to change it, but when i choose simplify3d as program to open with , nothing happens, it will not show up in the list of usable programs.
I can change it to repetier or any other 3d program, but not s3d. It just won't work.
I have even tried to delete all keys for stl's in the registry, but it won't work anyway.

When you select the program, use the browse option and go through program files-->Simplify3D 2.1.2 and then selecting the .exe out of that folder. There's a good chance that the .exe you are choosing is just a broken link, maybe caused from updating.

I am doing just that. From original install folder and exe file.
After selecting file it never appears in the list of useable programs and nothing happens.

Oh I didn't even know about this! Thanks keyboardWarrior, this is great.

I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro, and it works for me. I did notice when trying to double click on the STL without association, S3D wasn't on the list, then I nagivated to the exe like you said, and it loaded my model. Then I could right click on the file and choose open with Simplify3D and it automatically set up the file associations for all STL's to be opened with S3D.

I don't have Windows 7, and it's been a while since I've used it but try following the instructions here:
