My new printer, a gigabot will not usually finish a print without failing due to unresponsive firmware, why does this happen? Sometimes it will print for minutes or hours but with this printers large build volume and my obvious need for the large scale the prints are often over 40 hours even using a 1mm nozzle with a 2 layer wall.

Are you printing via usb ir sd catd. this is definately something you should be printing on an sd card and not over usb.

I have tried printing from both USB and an SD card.

and what were the results?

@jtree - if you send an email to support (at) re3d.org, we can take a look at your situation. The most common thing that causes this is a screen saver being activated (interrupts USB only) or windows update that restarts the computer (USB or SD can be affected). But if you email us with some more details about exactly when this happens and what the signature of "unresponsive" is, we can get you printing again ASAP!

I am facing same problem with GIGABOT as JTREE. Fırmware unresponsive. I have tried to print by SD card also and couldn't managed any results. Anybody here has any solution about this problem?

Mine started this with the most recent update.
However if I do the print from the SD card it seems to work...
which compels me to think there is something going on with the Arduino comm. I even went so far as to replace the Arduino board with a new one, but that didn't really help.
(neither did new USB cables). I am not seeing this with other programs (I hate them, but I can test with them).

It's always recommended to print via SD Card for long prints. Errors will happen over USB, although not frequent, they do happen.

I came across this thread earlier because I was getting the firmware unresponsive error. My solution was different than those mentioned so I wanted to post it in case it helps someone else later.

Ultimately, all I had to do was uninstall the Arduino Mega driver, restart my computer, and re-install the driver. The other symptom I was experiencing was that my prints were stopping in the middle of the print, whether printing with the USB or using an SD Card. Also when I tried disabling/re-enabling the Arduino device in Device manager, I got this error: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I have not tried printing from the SD Card yet and it doesn't make sense that re-installing the driver would have anything to do with that(but who knows). I've had 2 successful 2+ hour long prints with the USB.
