Extra Inflation distance goes through model

i enjoy the "Extra Inflation Distance" setting in supports when it works. It really helps with removing the supports and removing supports is my least favorite thing about 3d printing. The problem I run into is sometimes when this is enabled, it goes through the model. If i lower it to where it no longer goes through the model, then my 3d printer layer shifts at the layer where the top of that support interface is. I have run close to 1000 prints through this printer and this is the only time it layer shifts.

Has anyone else ran into this? I believe this should be filed as a bug. The supports should never go through a model.
