Imported model looks ok but some features lost by slicing

I have created an .stl file from proDesktop and it looks OK when I import it into S3D. All the features can be seen in the orange solid on the screen. However when I click the prepare to print button the shape is evident but the array of holes and the 1 mm deep groove is lost from the sliced model.
I have redrawn the model twice in my CAD package each time using slightly different methods but get exactly the same result when I slice it in S3D.
I have been using this CAD package successfully to create .stl files for 3D printing for some years now without difficulty.
