[ADDED] Does V5 still allow for thin-wall 3D printed wings / airplane slicing?

Hi all,

Before I upgrade, me and many of the members in the 3D printing RC community are wondering, does the V5 version with the new STL fixing algorithm, mess up the way thin-wall slicing works?

3Dlabprint has traditionally (since 2015) always highly recommended S3D, and has provided factory files for all their designs which have been very successful.

So, does this all still work on V5?

As a representative of 3DLabPrint, I have to disappoint you. Majority of the factory files that used to work in V4 end up empty. Even with the Edge wing mentioned above, not all the internal features are there.

From my observation, the V5 works just as PrusaSlicer (and every other slicer) used to work before they made a slicing mode called Even/Odd. Back in 2014, the V4 behaviour was unique to Simplify3D and that, along with the possibility to set different processes along the Z height, was why we started to promote it as the slicer to go.

the V5 version still allows for thin-wall 3D printed wings and airplane slicing. The new STL fixing algorithm does not interfere with the thin-wall slicing process. You can continue to use Simplify3D with confidence. Feel free to DM or email us with the sample factory file and STL's for further testing.

This is a pretty old thread, but yet, this issue was already resolved in our prior 5.0.1 release. You can read instructions here:

3DLabPrint also has similar instructions on their own website. They mention that 5.0.0 didn't work with their files, but 5.0.1 works correctly with their instructions.
