Three years? Four? Not sure.
$60 upgrade? Sure, why not.
Does the product offering meet the expectations of paying customers who have been waiting YEARS while pretty much being ghosted by the company?
I've been reading posts from others who decided to upgrade. Not even close.
For me the problem is simple: The company and people involved have lost the trust of users who, after paying for their product, got dropped on their heads. What is happening here is a complete and utter failure to understand that regaining trust isn't as easy of "Hey! Buddy! v5 is out! Trust me! Send me money!".
No. No. No.
I have no reason whatsoever to believe S3D are going to actually support v5 long-term and deal with the many issues people are presenting. For all I know they got this thing together enough to be able to collect some cash and they'll go back into the cave for another three or four years.
What S3D should have done is give every existing user a free upgrade and ask for feedback. Then, from that point forward, work very hard and engage on a daily basis to make v5 what people need it to be or expected it to be. Let everyone know v6 would be a paid upgrade. At that point, release v6 and everyone would gladly buy it.
Here's what I think S3D is missing: I gladly pay $100, $200, $500 and thousands of dollars for software that works well. It's about a return on investment and a number of other factors. For example, there are free 3D CAD packages, yet we pay thousands of dollars per year for commercial software that is well maintained and supported.
The thing is, you have to deliver a good product first. Then you can ask for as much money as you want. S3D got it backwards. They deliver nothing and treat users like crap. Then they deliver something that does not track with three years of development and ask for money. What? Yeah. No. Thanks.
