This alone may be worth the price of entry...

I found a little icon on the bottom of the process screen that may, all by itself make V5 worthwhile for me.
The fifth icon from the left is "reorient the model so that the selected surface is touching the bed". OMG, this alone will save me hours of fiddling with angles until the surface was aligned precisely! Obj files from most of my CAD designs always seem to load in at weird angles to the bed and I sit and fiddle with them until I get a correct first layer. Just click the surface and go now.

I mean, Prusa has had this for ages, Cura too, I admit it's a great addition to S3D but it's certainly not worth the cost.

(says the person who did buy the upgrade to V5, don't get me wrong, lol)

Basically my point is, if I can get it anywhere else for free, why does that make it "worth the cost" here exactly?

Err, Ctrl-L in version 4 does the same thing. It's in the Edit tab at the top.

That is truly a good point. :) It is nice though to do most of what I do using one tool instead of a bunch, and S3D has the best support "support" of any of the slicers that I have used. Except for tree supports, CURA's support tools are execrable. So, getting the ability to specify the surface to put on the plate AND precise support generation together, is a big deal for me. And, warts excepted, S3D's user interface is way ahead of the other slicers for ease of use.

So, yeah, my opinion.
All that said, if S3D would JUST do these three things, it would be hands down, my favorite:
Give us tree supports!!!
Direct support for Octoprint
Director support for Duet

Then S3D would have everything that I wanted. Oh yeah, get it to stop crashing, that would be good too.

But this has been in previous versions of S3D for years, I have always used it.

It's under Edit/Place surface on bed (Ctrl +L).

But it is a timesaver indeed for orienting models.

Yes been around for years, but don't feel bad I didn't notice it for a couple of years of owning the software lol. It's a closely guarded secret.

I didn't even know it was there and I have been using S3D for over four years.
Sigh. Kind of calls into question my statement about the user interface...

Well, let me add one more "must have":
A FULL accounting of what we can do with custom scripting!!!
