Help with Dual Extruder

So, here is my first dual extruder print, a complete disaster....

Image

when i print in one color it is quite decent, i chose to print this cat and there is a lot of curling and residue when switching from one extruder to the next.

this is is PLA, i started the first layer @ 210, then down to 195C for both extruders, it sticks well to a heated bed @ 70C. Printer is flash forge creator pro.

Any ideas ? particular settings for ooze control or retraction? any help will be appreciated.

thanks,

Felipe

Re: Help with Dual Extruder

I believe this post was released before 2.2, which has ToolChange retracts that really help with this kind of thing. Your temperatures look to be good, but if you see those pink "loops", those are oozing out because in 2.1, you were only retracting aprox 1 mm of filament after the extruder was done being used. There's a way to add Tool-change retracts relatively easily if you're familiar with G-Code in the Scripts tab in 2.1.2, but they made it default in 2.2 which I think is great for print quality of dual-extrusion prints.

Since the heat zone of the FF Creator is much larger than 1 mm, you will find that this filament sludges out while the blue printer is going. Now in 2.2, under the advanced tab there is the option for Tool-Change retracts which are much larger, I believe 12 mm is the default value which works really well!

In addition, I'd recommend printing a skirt the entire height of your part, as this skirt will often "catch" filament leaking from the inactive nozzle. To do this, you would go to the layer tab and set the layers to 999.

Re: Help with Dual Extruder

will try again with 2.2, you are right that print was with 2.1 If i add a full height skirt, i'll be cleaning only one nozzle but not the other one, so may not help both cases
