Model orientation not adjusted when switching printers

Hi there,

Just came across an annoying problem with Simplify 3D V5.01.
I use several types of printers which also have different sized print platforms.

For each printer I have listed several processes which of course each have their respective settings as needed for that particular printer.
I have now noticed that when I have model oriented in the center of the printbed on one (larger) printer and then switch the process, thje model view of the printer in the window DOES NOT CHANGE according to the new build platform (V4 did this perfectly).

Even when I use the 'Center All Models' button, the position stays the same. But when I then slice the model and note the respective X and Y-axis coordinates, it is still showing the old settings of the previous (larger) printer.
The result is that the printer will start printing with the model offset to the left side of the printbed.

PLEASE FIX THIS !!

Re: Model orientation not adjusted when switching printers

I have the same exact issue, has anyone figured out how to solve this? Currently, I am adjusting the model 100mm right and 100mm back to center it on my 400x400 build place. When it says the model is off the bed I continue anyway, and it prints centered as it should.

Re: Model orientation not adjusted when switching printers

You can fix the issue by saving your printer settings in the intended S3D profile database. Once you do this you can delete all of the other processes except for the 1 you want to use for printing.

The profile database can be accessed by clicking Edit Process Settings and expanding the "Select profile" drop down list. If you printer is already mentioned in that list, then it's already part of the profile database. If it isn't mentioned in that list, just double click on the process and choose "Save As New".

Once you have all of your printers saved in the profile database, delete all of the processes except for 1. When you need to change settings you can do so by double clicking on that 1 process and changing the profile at the top. This will update the build volume correctly.

Re: Model orientation not adjusted when switching printers

Sorry Jason, bit this is kind of ridiculous.
If you wanted users to use only ONE process all the time, then what use is it to be able to create multiple processes in the first place?

I used to have multiple processes for multiple printer in the list. And then chose the process I needed for a particular print and/or printer.
It was (and is) a quick and time-saving way of working. Just ONE click was needed.

NOW, you want me to delete all processes and just keep on and then having to select in a dropdownlist the process & printer I will need for a particular printer.

So now I have a specific printer setup for a particular printer. Will all the settings needed to get that specific print exactly right. Layer-height, infill, shell thickness, support settings, printing speed and temperatures, ALL set up for that specific type of print.
All nicely setup in a single process to which I can switch back if I still need to do some tweaking.

And all this in between all the other prints on different printers and materials which each also have their own process.

And now you want me to quit all this easy working, delete all processes and keep switching back and forth with printer profiles. Which I would need to save all the time just to keep things going.

Do you understand that if one is doing 30-40 prints a week for different customers, how many profiles you would end up with after some time?

If thinks work just fine in Version 4, then why would you change it to something that works more complicated?

Re: Model orientation not adjusted when switching printers

If I was managing settings for 50 machines and materials, I would far rather have those as separate profiles. That way you can actually use the intended profile management system. There's about 15 features in V5 that will NOT work if you try to save all of your machine settings as separate process instead of using the intended profile management system.

The intent of being able to add multiple processes in S3D is so that you can change settings within a single print. For example, printing different settings within different regions of a part, or printing multiple parts at once but each one having different settings. All of the tools in the software are built around that idea.
