V5.0.2 crashing when slicing a 978 MB STL file

I have a 978 MB STL file that either crashes V5.0.2 or it slices but won't show up in the preview, also doing anything like adding or removing supports is terribly slow with repeated " not responding" warnings. Windows 10

That is quite large. A 1GB STL could easily make a gcode file that is several GB, which requires even more GB of memory to preview. Most likely your computer runs out of resources at some point, which is why the preview won't show up.

You could try re-meshing the STL file so it is smaller, or go to Tools > Options and disable the "automatically load preview after slicing" option. That way you can export the gcode right away without trying to load a 10 GB preview :D

But why is doing any action causing a "not responding " warning? My computer has 16 g of ram and and i7 CPU .

When I load the 1gig stl in S3d v4.1.2 I can see my GPU engine working when I change the view and it is smooth and responsive but in v5.0.2 I see no GPU usage and it is slow to respond and I get a " not responding" warning.

Like I said, I've imported files that are 5x larger than the ones you're talking about and it worked fine on my laptop that has lower specs than your machine. Maybe you can post the STL and ask other users to see if they're having the same experience with that file. All the files I have tested that were that large worked as expected on my end.
