As the name suggests, is there a tutorial?

I made a 45 degree pillar and converted it to a support and it put the supports in thin air lol.

If you are trying to model the supports in your CAD package, and you want them to have some steep angles, then you generally want to make sure you have at least 1 support outline. That way the outlines can help support the support infill and you don't print in thin air.

I'll repeat back what I read to make sure I am clear on the work flow:

Design part, Identify where I want supports that don't touch main product, make a normal part that will go almost up to the main part on a steep angle and branch out over the area I want to support, make support for the area between both my part and the structure I made,
import all three as separate parts into Simplify, align them, and then select the customized area as support, selecting the main part as the support material haver.

That sounds correct to me. Right click on the 3D models that represent the support material and choose "Change model type", then change them to "Custom support structure".

After you do that, I was just recommending to go to Edit Process Settings > Support tab, and change the "Support Outlines" setting to 1 or more. This is especially important if the supports will have steep overhangs.
