XY shifting problem

hey guys,

I've been scratching my head over this issue since I got the printer (a chinese Mingda 5 ) couple of weeks ago. Terrible support from them and my feeling is they are not even aware of all the issues that their printer have (as long as they see some plastic coming out of the nozzle they think they got a decent printer to sell.) Anyway I am posting some pics to better illustrate the issue. These 2 cylinders are printer at 0.3 mm , once sliced with CURA and the other with Simplify3d . Not even bothering here about the blobs for now (yeah other numbers to figure out) but I am just trying to understand what is causing those repetitive XY shift on Z. Excluding the slicer software since the problems is there regardless, and after reading and searching the internet for the problem I though that the cause of the problem might be the Z screw. I then attached 2 markers to the platform and I lifted the platform for about 10-15 cm (those black mark is the pic) and I cannot really relate the print issue with those marks.
What is your thought about it? I just know dont know what else to tweak. The print speed was I think 35-40 mm/s so not that high. Material is HIPS...but ABS showed the same print temp between 230-240

thanks a lot

Re: XY shifting problem

Disclaimer: I've never printed in ABS or HIPS, but I assume the principle the same as PLA/PVA. I'm also not a pro.

http://reprap.org/wiki/Print_Troublesho ... rial_Guide may help you

Otherwise, I can think of three basic culprits:

1: Your extruder is wobbling. This might be because it isn't very precise at moving in general (that's called a bad printer) or because you're pushing it too hard by having it move too fast. Since you're printing so slowly, I kind of doubt that's the problem. If it's not that, then it's,

2: Ypir Build Plate is wobbling. You might want to check to see if it is visibly vibrating while printing. I wonder if perhaps too much friction could cause this kind of problem with the walls (I kind of doubt it, but it might be worth checking the leveling of your plate). Otherwise, it might be a loose screw, as you mentioned before, though the markers seem to rule that out. OR:

3: Something on the software side is buggy. Since it happens with both Cura and Simplify, I kind of doubt the slicer is making any mistakes. If you preview the gcode visualization, I assume everything looks fine, so it's probably not the model you're using either. In that case, the only thing I can think of would be some kind of firmware incompatibility between the slicer and your printer. But that's also VERY unlikely, I imagine. See if the printer company could send you their slicer profile for whichever slicer they use (a longshot, but it can't hurt to ask).

Your print temperature seems to be alright as well. Does this happen with ABS as well, or just HIPS? What size nozzle do you have? If you're printing at .3mm with a small nozzle, it may be causing irregularities, though I'm not sure that this would be a symptom. You might try printing at .2mm, or whatever a recommended layer height for your nozzle size. Have you had any successful prints? Try reusing those settings (adjusting if you had used a different material, naturally). If all else fails, I suppose you could try printing even slower. Also, adding active cooling may help with this, as the filament won't squish around so much after its extruded.

That's just about everything I can think of. Interesting problem, though.

Re: XY shifting problem

Hi
I have a Mingda 6S, and I had the same problem.
It was because the extruder does not have a really good mount in the feeding mechanism.
Some times the plastic would get stuck in the extruder too, so I designed a mounting bracket for a E3D extruder and after that it's been working much better.
I can send you the solidworks files / STL files if you like to try. (assuming you have the feeding mechanism mounted on the xy carriage)

I've read about other people using printers from Mingda having similar problems because of wobble in the Z screw, might be worth checing too.

Re: XY shifting problem

Zerox, I don't suppose you still have the e3d mounting files do you?

Would love to swap to a volcano how end.

And... i hear e3d has awesome quality and reliability.
