Simplify3D User Forum

Gang,

I've had my Di Vinci 1.0 since its release last year. So I'm past the 90 day warranty and support period and I've had to re-solder the filament heater, to repair the printer. I was thinking of what next should I do.. That's when I found Simplify3d it looks pretty interesting, but without a Trial its hard to understand as a Novice and a person on budget if I should spend the $150. can some one clue me in on if its worth it for a Novice.. I pretty much only print things for my robot hobby, and to give you an example of how much I print I only have 150hrs on the printer since I bought it last march.

It has a TON more features than the stock XYZware software. Definitely worth it if you are looking to get high quality prints from your machine. The default XYZ software leaves a lot to be desired.

You will find that Simplify3d slices far faster than XYZware, and it offers a great deal of control over things like infill, print temperatures, speed and more. One of the frustrations I had with XYZware was finding the right infill -- too much and the part warped, too little and the top had holes in it. There were just not enough settings in XYZware to strike the right balance, at least for the things I was trying to do. The ability to rotate the infill pattern and control its width saves a lot of time and material. The ability to fine-tune extrusion and bed temperatures and speed -- throughout the model, if you wish -- also help with warping. The ability to define different processes for different parts on the same print bed provides another level of time-savings and control. It will help you get more out of your printer.

I believe the recommended DaVinci firmware for Simplify3D remains 1.1.J. According to an email exchange with an engineer in mid-Dec., the software's jogging feature in the Machine Control Panel did not work with newer DaVinci firmware.
