automatic supports pierce outer skin of model

Hi all,

Just purchased Simply3D and I'm very happy with it apart from one niggle. See attached photo.

The automatic supports are piercing through the outer shell of my print. Are there any settings I should try to get them to not do this? Genrally, the automatic support placement is excellent, so I'd like to keep the supports as they've been placed, just not have them stick through the model. :)

If it helps, I can post the factory file but it's over 2Mb in size.

Kind regards,
Chris

It may be possible you need to use repair features on the mesh of your part,

Thanks KeyboardWarrior,

I found out what it was... I'd set the support generation to 4mm, where it should have been more like 1mm. My error. Oops!

This slicer does an amazing job and I very much like the preview of the layers. That featire is so useful and has already helped me identify some problem areas with my print.
Very pleased! Well done Simplify3D :-)

It's a bug, it's been discussed before, for example see http://forum.simplify3d.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1920

TL;DR - change the support size and/or place it manually if you can't get it working.

Ah, it is a bug, thanks for the link. I hadn't seen that thread. I got around the problem by lowering the support pillar resolution from 4mm to 1mm. That then produced a good print without the support piercing the outer shell.
