Nozzles digging in even after levelling.

Hi every one.

I've been working on this problem for a week now. I have a wanhao 4s

Basically I level my bed using the paper method. Then when I go to print it just scrapes into the tape. It doesn't tear it up just puts a little dent in it.

I've used the Gcode offsett but it's never consistent.

I have tried just using the printer's levelling function and just the simplify function.

However when I us the makerbot software it doesn't do it. Works better. But I prefer to us simplify as I'm trying to use PVA support with ABS. Not having much succes with that either but that's another story.

Please help :-)

Re: Nozzles digging in even after levelling.

once the bed is level then you need to make sure you z-height is set right. im am not familiar with your printer but there must be an adjustment bolt or something that contacts a microswitch to set the gap between the nozzle and bed. i hate using paper. paper is not a standard of any kind. a set of feeler gauges is the best way. usually a couple bucks at the local auto parts store. a good starting gap is usually .005". the gcode offsets in s3d should all be set to zero. there may be something odd in your start script as well but one of the other members will need to chime in on that since i dont know anything about your firmware

Just to add a tip, try to do your leveling while the nozzle and bed are at the temperatures you print with to account for thermal expansion.

Thank you, I will have a look see with your ideas.

I have levelled with and without heat.

Just seems wiered that makerbot software prints but simplify doesn't.

Re: Nozzles digging in even after levelling.

Hello,

Looks like your machine uses the terminology of leveling the bed to also mean setting the z height. I have always used the paper to set the z height and it works fine. If the height seems too low, judged by how flat the first layer is, just allow a little less drag on the paper when adjusting. Make sure your nozzles are completely free of any hardened plastic on the tip, this is common with drool after stopping the extrusion. As previously mentioned, do not change the z height in the gcode tab. Double click on the model and check that the z position is set to zero there.

Maybe you have tinkered with some settings and need to reset everything back to defaults, perhaps with a reinstall.
