Hiya all,

I am sure this has been answered before but I can't find the answer.

It's a two part question.

Aim is to print one part using two different materials. I want to make a ABS base with a number of translucent PLA lenses.

1) what do I need to do with the CAD design. Two separate files or a single file with two seperate solids.

2) would I require to setup two processes, one for left (PLA) and one for the right (ABS)

It is written for 2-color printing, but the same workflow can be used for 2-material printing (essentially the same thing).

You could get away with one CAD file, depending on what CAD tool you use. Fusion 360 allows you to show or hide bodies when you export to an STL, so you can just hide the ones you don't want for a particular export. You will still be dealing with 2 STL files when you print, though.
