1 process, 2 machines

I have a Flashforge Creator Pro and a Rostock MAX v2. I have a process for a print for the Pro. I save it. I switch to MAX v2. I import the process. NG
What do I do to simplify my life. Otherwise I have to copy the settings manually from one to the other.

I hope I'm missing something obvious.

Well unfortunately there are a LOT of settings that are different between these two printers! One is a RepRap-style bowden extruder delta machine, while the other is a MakerBot-style direct drive cartesian. They're totally different animals. So no matter what, when you switch machines you will need to update things like speeds, retraction settings, firmware configs, etc.

Personally, I just make a separate FFF file for each printer I own. Then it is very easy to make the few changes for each print like infill %, number of perimeters, etc.

That is exactly what I do. I just wanted to confirm that I wasn't missing something basic.
Problem comes when I have a model that requires several different processes, 0 to 18mm, 18 to 36, 36 to 72 for example. Two machines, 6 processes. Make a change once, then five more times. It gets old. I'd prefer the parts of the process that aren't machine dependent be independent of the machine.
I'm learning.

Bill,

Each time you add a new process, it starts with the same settings as the last process you saved. So I would suggest starting with one process (for example, the 0-18mm one). You can make all the changes you want to that processes. Then once you are done, click Save to store that process. Now, when you click Add to create the other processes, each one will start with the exact same settings you just saved. So the ONLY thing you would need to change is the start/stop printing at heigh values (i.e. make the second process start at 18mm and stop at 36mm, etc).

I just noticed that behavior the other day. Yes, it works well. Thanks for confirming what I saw.

While we are on the topic of multiple processes...
Is the layer count reset for each process? 0 to 18mm, 18 to 70mm, If I change the bed temperature at layer X in each process, what happens? I work around this issue by setting the bed temp by process, not layer, I was just wondering.

i have both of those same printers :) i havent tried it yet, but shouldnt be an issue to install it in two different locations, and have 2 separate executables for it. settings are stored in files within the install directory.
ill try it later.

im actually looking to sell my rostock max, if anyone is interested.

I'm interested in the results of your testing two installations. Didn't think of that.
Still, decoupling model print settings from machine settings would be best.

Bill - yes, the layer count is for each specific process. So if your process #2 starts at 18mm, then layer #1 for process 2 is around 18mm.

What would be nice if you could run two copies of S3D as the same time keeping the settings separate. That would be easier.

Use a print server like Octoprint. Slice with S3D upload the G-Code to appropriate print server.

That doesn't alleviate the multiple profiles for each printer. I've settled on creating template profiles with characteristics for the project or filament and printer. For instance: TAZ_ABS_Hi_Skirt5_Z.1 = TAZ printer, ABS filament, Hi (.1) resolution, Skirt 5 loops, Z offset .1

I've heard factory files are a good way to retrieve and organize settings also... but haven't worked with those yet.
