It would be nice if the last path accessed was not shared by the gcode export and file open options.

This way when exporting gcode we do not have to navigate all the way to another path to open the next file.

You should be able to do this by going to Tools > Options (or Simplify3D > Preferences on Mac), then change the File Selection Behavior to ‘Remember a unique last used directory for each separate file type’.
