Simplify3D User Forum

Brand new S3D user. I am trying to make a part with an extremely thin wall. Was .001 but tried all the way to .003. Makerbot Desktop prints it no problem so I have to imagine it is a print setting with S3D. I will include pictures of the parts that clearly show the thin walls and then a picture of the print preview. I will also include the .stl file if anyone would be so kind as to try it and let me know what setting or settings need to be adjusted in S3D to fix the issue.

It looks like simplify3d is flagging that wall as having a thickness LESS than your extrusion width. Makerbot probably doesn't care and plows ahead regardless. Either make the wall thickness equal to or greater than your extrusion width (probably .4mm). you can also experiment with lower extrusion widths, but this may have adverse affects on other things (layer bonding, bed adhesion, etc).

That's correct. But it isn't as simple as just lowering the nozzle width. If you have a wall that is .4 and a .4 nozzle, you can lower your nozzle width to .39 to print it. However, if the wall is a single wall that is a perimeter on both sides, the toolpath will still want to traverse both directions so you'd actually need to lower the nozzle to .2 to get a .4 wall in that specific case.

The reality is you can't print a .001 wall with a .4 nozzle. Makerware ignores this. S3D makes you deal with it.

Makes sense thanks for the explanations. Measuring the wall from Makerware Desktop it is .4mm so it must automatically upscale where needed.
