Hi,
I would like to have a dry run mode that puts all the X/Y/Z axes through the full motions of a print, but does not perform any extrusions and does not activate any extruder or bed heaters. I read in another post that someone suggested to disable waiting for the heater and then just remove the filament, however this won't work for firmware that refuses to operate the extruder below a certain temperature for safety reasons -- and I don't want to heat the extruder empty since it will char the ABS remnants inside. Can we get a formal dry run mode in Simplify3D?
TL;DR
I'm having problems with my MendelMax 1.0 driven by a Sanguinololu 0.7 modified to be 1.2-compliant with an ATmega1284p @ 16MHz. After upgrading the unit from A4988 drivers to DRV8825's and upping the stepper frequency on X/Y from 1/16 to 1/32, and the Z/E from 1/8 to 1/16, the Repetier 0.91 Rev8 firmware hangs and stops sending temperature events while in the middle of printing the first layer, bringing the print to a halt. This does not occur on the Repetier firmware when slicing/printing the same part. I am not suggesting that Simplify3D is the problem since there are (literally) a lot of moving parts here. I want to try cutting down the number of stepper drivers in operation at any given time and see if the unit starts behaving rather than hanging. Currently I have to revert my steppers back to lower frequencies and go through a bunch of tedious retries, wasting a lot of warm-up time and filament.
