Last layer troubles

Hi folks,

I see some troubles printing the last layers on my models using Simplify 3D and I thought maybe one of you has an idea on how to fix this behavior cause I have been happy with Simplify 3D so far. I printed now several models in different sizes and the last couple of layers always end up with holes in them - not sure if it has anything todo with the speed of the extruder, or something else. Below please find two images from different models which showcase a similar result.

Here is also the .factory file from the T800 model I was printing. I am using a Lulzbot TAZ 5, printing white ABS from eSun at 250c nozzel and 110c bed temperature. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Last layer troubles

To handle nearly flat areas, I use 2 processes. In your case:

First Process - change to zero top solid layers and stop printing at 56mm, leaving all other settings the same.
Second Process - zero bottom layers and 4 top solid layers, first layer speed to 100%, infill to 100%, start printing at 56mm.

This makes sure those nearly flat areas don't have holes like you have seen. At only 30% infill, there is not enough of a foundation to support the top layers on nearly flat areas like this.

Re: Last layer troubles

Ah yes, that makes totally sense. I didn't think about attributing the lack of infill to those problems - and thinking back, I was way below 30% infill sometimes to speed things up  Thanks, I'll give it a try!
