I have auto arrange turned off, because I am importing multiple stl files that must be arranged in a specific way (for dual extrusion), which I set up before hand in my solid modeler. I place the models at the required x y z coords. and then export them to stl files. When I import the files, they are .25mm higher than where I modeled them in the z axis in S3D. Why is S3D altering z height? Is this some kind of Z offset setting or is it a bug?
i have seen it do this only if there is a bad mesh. some type of error. double check the model. run it through netfabb. be sure there isnt anything sticking down when its in your cad software. i had this happen to me the other day and there was a triangle sticking down that i could not see. it was invisible in my software until i looked at it in wireframe mode.
When you import the STL file, it will arrange it so that the lowest triangle in the mesh is just barely touching the build table. So if you have one part of a model that sticks down 0.25mm, then every other part of the model will be raised up so that this lowest part isn't below the table.
No this is not it. If I drop any model to the table after import, the z coordinate is always reported at -.25mm. Before dropping the z coordinate is 0.00. So S3D has the build plate at -0.25mm. I am using a Taz 4 print configuration. Is this something in the settings?
This happens will all models imported and auto arrange disabled.
Ok a factory file won't do you any good because it will show the model at z = 0.
It's the bed that's actually at Z = -0.25mm. So the problem isn't the model or the import, it's S3D's bed location for the Taz 4
Be sure to go to tools, options, models, and deselect "center and and arrange models after importing"
Then import the model. Double click it. Note the position should be z = 0 if it was modeled that way. Now drop it to table. And double click again, and it will read z = -0.25
