Infill Extrusion Width problem

Hello,

I have a problem with the Infill Extrusion Width. Am I right that it controls both, the extrusion width of the top and bottom infill layer and as well the infill between the shells?
I have the problem that when I set the Infill Extrusion Width to about 120% my top and bottom layers will look perfectly smooth but my infill is not very strong since the strings don’t bond to each other sufficiently. On the other hand if I set the value to 200% the Infill will be very strong but my top and bottom layer get a very rough surface since there is too much extrusion.

Is there an option to control the extrusion width of the top and bottom infill and the normal infill separately? Or will there be an option in the future?
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Regards
Carlos

Re: Infill Extrusion Width problem

You can already control the width of the infill and top and bottom infill independently. For example, if you set your extruder's extrusion width to 0.4mm, that is the width that will be used for the top and bottom solid layers. Then if you set your infill extrusion width to 200% of that, it will use 0.8mm for the infill extrusion width. So you can control them both independently.

Settings your infill extrusion width to 200% does not make the top and bottom solid layers extrude more.

Re: Infill Extrusion Width problem

I have my multiplier on 1.00 and my shells are perfect and at the same time my Extrusion Infill Width at 200%. Then my bottom and top layers have way too much material but the infill is strong. When i reduce multiplier then my shells do not bond to each other and my infill is not strong enough. The same when I keep the multiplier and reduce the Extrusion Infill Width, but then my Bottom and Top Solid layers look perfect but the shells and the infill do not bond.
Could pictures be helpful?

Re: Infill Extrusion Width problem

Related question: do the First Layer Height and Width Settings affect the extrusion flow rate calculations?

I.e., if I set a First Layer Height of 90% will the amount of filament extruded be reduced proportionally? Or will I get 100% extrusion, just squished down into less height?

Similarly, if my First Layer Width is set to 150% will the filament paths be spaced 50% farther apart and the extrusion amount increased proportionally?

If so, there's no "extra" extrusion happening to improve first layer bonding, and the only way to really do that is to add a first layer process with a higher Extrusion Multiplier, correct?

Would it be useful to have a First Layer Setting for Extrusion Multiplier?

Re: Infill Extrusion Width problem

if you print first layer at 150% width and or height then yes more plastic is extruded to give you that but the lines are also spaced out properly. the infill height is really there to take up irregularities in the flatness of the bed. not really to squish it. squishing isnt really necessary. as long as you have 100% contact with no spaces between the lines then thats all your going to get adhesion wise. squishing is just going to make a mess of the first layer. if you want to squish the first layer though then no multiplier is needed for that since that is controlled by your bed gap. you can either adjust that on your printer or just goto the gcode tab and set the z offset to be .05mm tighter.

Re: Infill Extrusion Width problem

Hello,

thank you for the anwsers. I think I found now the core of the problem. What it looks like is that my printer is not able to do prints with a height bigger than 0.25 mm. At that height I can use whichever settings I choose and either the first layers have too much extrusion or all the lines do not bond to each other. This is somehow fine for us since we need to make detailed prints in our company usually.
All prints below 0.25 mm look just fine with 0.9 multiplier, 125% first layer height and 200% Infill Extrusion Width. It is still a little bit too much of extrusion on the base layers but I am sure I can resolve that with some finetuning on the multiplier.
