V3.0 - Striving for perfection

OK I just downloaded 3.0 and started some test prints. I am glad to see these updates although I am not 100% sold that my profiles need to be uploaded to the cloud. Keep up the great work guys, it's wonderful to know you are listening and continually working on improvements. I am starting this thread so people can share their ideas on how S3D can continue to get better.

I just tested the concentric infill option for the base of a print. It could just be my printer but it looks like I am getting a bit of over-extrusion in the corners when printing a rectangular shape. This infill mode may need either a coast programmed in or it may need to find another way to compensate for this. It is not dramatic but if we are striving for perfection this may need a little work.

I have not tried switching between printers yet but it looks like this has been greatly improved. THANK YOU!! :D This was my biggest annoyance with S3D. Now I expect changing between my machines to be a breeze.

I love how S3D can print faster by selecting start points that improve print speed by removing unneeded movements. The biggest downside is that rather then an easy to clean up seam, I get small blobs all over my print. I have my extruder dialed in very well but I am still getting these blobs. Are you guys working on blob/seam hiding?

None of the FAQs mention if we should expect any print quality improvements from this version. Have there been any improvements to the slicing engine and it's output?

Re: V3.0 - Striving for perfection

I agree...3.0 answers so many requests and will make a huge difference in our results. But I'm confused with your last two questions. :?:

Have you had a chance to look at the change log? https://www.simplify3d.com/software/changelog/

You have to scroll and scroll to see all the changes and many of them improve quality. So I would say "yes" to your question – many of the changes give you tools and settings and control to improve your quality.

And in terms of the slicer speed, which was already hands-down the fastest slicer around, now it got even faster! Are you getting better or faster slicing results with another piece of software? What are you using?

You probably just need to adjust your extrusion, retraction, and coasting settings. If it's overextruding on the inside, you will definitely see it on the outside.

There's always been a lot of options to prevent seeing those defects on the outside. Why don't you post a factory file and a pic of your part?

Just a small thing I have noticed. In preview you it always went to by line and I had to change it to by layer, Now it stays on layer....you have no idea how good that is, it was one of those tiny things that really started to grate after a days usage of the program.

TO THE SIMPLIFY3D ENGINEERS

I just want to say WOW! I just downloaded version 3.0 today and I am blown away by all the vast improvements you guys have made. I was getting a little worried not seeing any new releases for quite some time. But it was worth the wait. So many nice new features and fixes. I am thoroughly satisfied with this latest version. The slicing engine is fantastic now. I can now create really strong beautiful prints.

GREAT JOB!!!!
