3.0 Issues

Hey guys, Loving the 3.0 update so far. biggest win having the retract while wiping, perimeter avoidance with a variable, the infill, color coding... its all wonderous.

However there are a few things that have made me furious over the last few days. I work at 2 different 3d printing companies in Michigan, and own 5 printers at home. All in all i have a need to operate 8+ different models of printers in just about every material out there... simplify is running on OS X for more background, now onto the issues:

1. this has KILLED my productivity. adding new printers from the configuration assistant, awkward but ill bite, gets them out of the way when adding new profiles. as soon as I added a new printer, it WIPES all of my 15+ profiles, and are unrecoverable. I am not the type to want to backup my profiles, and re-open profiles upon opening simplify3d to print. This should at least WARN the user that everything you've tweaked will be deleted with no recovery unless you've backed your factory file....

2. I am sure you are aware, but perhaps in the midst of dual extrusion wizarding, when you go to print, it auto selects all of the profiles. I don't know how this made it into the release.... its the FIRST thing myself and others have scoffed at upon printing... just not user friendly.

mostly my issues are with the profile system. Its clunky, likes to delete everything without warning, and expects you to print on 6 printers at different materials and layer height at once by default.

I apologize if I sounded harsh here, I understand you all have probably had some late nights with little sleep in-between, but these issues have made my job difficult and downright frustrating... profiles are the most valuable functional settings of simplify3d, and reseting them every other day feels bad man.

Reading your post, I think your workflow may be a bit off then what's designed.

The process system is designed so you only have the processes you are going to be slicing for that print active. If you want to change your settings, you click Edit Process Settings and then load in your Profile (This is where you can keep your many different easy to load settings).

Doing it this way ensures that the correct Bed Size, Firmware Configuration and Baud Rate are selected for your printer.

Re: 3.0 Issues

It seems as if my terminology is incorrect.

by profile I meant process.

I have 3 factory files typically.

1 for job a, 1 for job b, and one for home.

in a factory file, I have all the processes I use at the office for example:
TypeA-Bronzefill
TypeA-PLA
Rep2-PLA
Rep2x-ABS
Rep2x-Ninjaflex

I will then modify layer height etc per print. it makes no sense to load new factory files when I'm at an office trying to run jobs on all my machines for orders.
in the new simplify, i add this set up, then I added a new machine that wasn't loaded into my factory file via the configuration wizard. upon confirming, all the processes are deleted.

Normally this is but an annoyance, but when upgrading to a new s3d i tend to rewrite all of my profiles from scratch, and I've had to do this only by saving my factory file every time I add a new machine. you cannot tell me I am using this wrong, or that this is a feature. regardless of the exact method, simplify3d should NEVER delete processes unless you tell it to, or it warns you. that is poor design.

I AGREE...

simplify3d should NEVER delete processes unless you tell it to, or it warns you. that is poor design.

Somehow I just lost ALL my Processes last night... this really IS a major problem for us we build machines and theyre all different..!!

Please tell me where they went?
Is it a file inside the simplify 3D folder or something similar..

They were deleted. Your processes will be deleted when you: Use the Configuration Assistant, use the Dual Extrusion Wizard, open a Factory File that doesn't have the same processes

If you change your workflow to use profiles, not processes, you won't encounter issues anymore, and using the Config Assistant, Dual Extrusion Wizard/Factory Files will be a bit more intuitive.
