Slow Slicing, Bad Previews and Crashing after 3.0.1 update

I installed 3.0.1 without first uninstalling 3.0 and have been getting some strange behavior. First of all any of my pre existing factory files that are over about 100mm tall result in a black preview and then crash. Then after this happened several times it has started to take a VERY long time to slice the exact same files even though I haven’t changed or resaved the factory files or settings.

Should I have uninstalled 3.0 before installing 3.0.1 perhaps? For now I will probably revert back to 3.0 since it was working fine and 3.0.1 is pretty much unusable for me.

Just discovered 3.0.0 is still installed. It slices normal speed but my previews are all black and program crashes if I move the layer sliders. Was working fine before I installed 3.0.1

again make sure your video drivers are up to date. i have never gotten a black screen. when i would do something complex and run out of video memory on my card i would get a pop up saying that i am out of video ram. i cant remember if if it was an s3d window or something from nvidia or windows. i have since upgraded my card to something with some more balls and what a difference it made in everything from s3d to my cad. night and day.

First post! I've been through the FAQ's and searched the forums. I see this post is a couple moths old. Any word on this? I'm having the same error when trying to slice this file:

Scaled to full print volume S3D crashes every time. Scaled to about 20% it would slice and preview the lamp, but the preview was black and only showed half the lamp. I tried setting to low detail and legacy graphics, no change.

I went back to Makerbot desktop and was able to slice it (just took forever...).

You might want to try going to Tools --> Options, click on the Visualization tab, and disable the "automatically load preview after slicing" option. That way it will write out the gcode file right away.

FYI - the STL file sliced just fine for me at full size on my laptop. Only took about 30 seconds and the preview looked correct too
