Heat up Nozzle and Bed at same time

Can the heated bed and nozzle heat up simultaneously?

We have an Ultimaker2 and it first has to heat up the bed, and then it heats up the nozzle.

Can these two processes take place at the same time?

Yeah, just change the order of the preheat commands in your starting script. Don't send the "stabilize bed" command until after you set the extruder temperature. There's plenty of threads on the forum about this. But keep in mind there's good reason why people don't do this by default. Many times it means the nozzle sits there cooking for 5 minutes waiting for the bed to heat up which can cause clogging. It has also caused power supply issues since it requires much more current to heat the bed and extruder at the same time.

I fried one of my printers by heating everything at once. So definitely do this at your own risk!

To be fair, it had 2 extruders, the heated bed drew a lot of current, and the power supply wasn't all that great, but still!

if you still want that (assuming you have a good power source and good wiring) put this in your starting script:

Remove the "Stabilize Bed" from S3D settings, keep the "Stabilize Extruder". Begin your print workflow, by heating the bed enough so that it reaches the first layer bed temp when the extruder reaches temp. For instance, preheat the bed to 70C, then start the print... assuming you're trying to hit a bed temp of 100C for ABS.

What will happen is, the bed will continue to heat to the first layer temp, but the print won't start until the extruder stabilizes at the first layer temp. Again, if you time things properly, the machine won't be roasting one component over the other.
