Dreamer + S3D 3.0x won't extrude

I'm having problems getting S3D 3.0x to work with my FF Dreamer Printer. I printed a lot with S3D 2.x with no problems, or at least nothing big. Since updating to 3.0x I can't seem to get the extruders to work. I've uploaded a gcode file from my current attempts, it's attached to this post. The printer works fine as I can print all day long with FlashForge's slicer, and print older gcode files I created with S3D 2.x. But anything I create with version 3 does not work. Today I tried again, clearing out all profiles and starting fresh with the configuration assistant from the help menu. At the start of the print, the initial primer line across the front of the print bed does just fine, but once the model is started, there is no more filament coming out of the extruder. Can anyone help me figure out what's happening in this process to stop extruding from occurring?

Re: Dreamer + S3D 3.0x won't extrude

ok.. well the entire file that you posted is full of extrusion commands, so I don't see anything wrong with the gcode. When you say "there's no filament coming out of the extruder", do you mean that the extruder motor is spinning but nothing is coming out of the nozzle? If so, that is almost always due to one of the following things:
  • The nozzle is too close to the build platform - when this happens there is no room for the filament to come out. If you let the print run for another 3-4 layers, you would likely start to see filament coming out which confirms this as the cause. If so, just increase your z-axis gcode offset on the G-Code tab by 0.05mm and repeat until it works better.
  • The nozzle wasn't primed before printing - this is probably unlikely since you said the default S3D starting script is already priming the nozzle, but it's still worth mentioning here. Usually when a print ends, the extruder will sit there and ooze for a little bit. So if you start another print right away and don't prime the extruder (i.e. extruder 30mm or so of filament to get it running again), then there will be this big empty void in the nozzle due to all the oozing. So nothing will come out for awhile until enough plastic is pushed into the nozzle to fill this void. A lot of people also setup multiple skirts in S3D to help prime the nozzle and avoid this issue.
  • The nozzle is clogged or the filament is stripped - If the nozzle is clogged, no new plastic will be able to come out of the tiny hole in the tip of the nozzle. If the filament is stripped, then the drive gear won't be able to grab the filament and push it into the nozzle, so no new plastic will every come out of the tip. The best way to determine if this is the issue is to let the print continue for another 5 layers or so. If filament never comes out, then it's likely you have a clog or stripped filament (or both!)
It's pretty easy to know which one of these is at fault using the logic above.

I am having this same problem. i have a wanhao duplicator 4x and i have never been able to get S3D to extrude during a print on my printer. The extruder counts never accumulate. They just say the specific step amount and thats it. I would really love the help of the community on this. The software looks amazing and i have paid for it and havent been able to use it. I have tried reinstalling S3D, reconfiguring everything, Is there anything else i can do?

I am able to print with replicatorG, Makerware, and Cura.

i have attached a file to show what i am talking about

Re: Dreamer + S3D 3.0x won't extrude

Read the answer above. There's 3 different causes and solutions for each one.

So if you want more help, tell us how you checked each of those 3 causes and what happened after you tried the changes

Hello,

I am having the same issue with the extruder motor not turning. Everything else seems to work but no extrusion and the motor is not turning I can visually see that. Cura works fine. So, not sure what the issue is.
