Dual extrusion ; Ooze shield / Prime tower.

I noticed that even though you can allocate specific extruders, offset mm's and position to the prime tower and the ooze shield, it fails to build separate shields or towers for the both extruders.

I would really like to have this, as it prevents the smearing between 2 colors when you use 2 separate nozzles.
I would be even better if the ooze shield could be build out of 2 parts (left/right) each for 1 nozzle.

Of-course this means you force to use both extruders on every layer, but this how I like it...

FYI this is my setup; Ultimaker2 with magnetic changing dual head (https://www.youmagine.com/designs/dual-head-ultimaker2)

Re: Dual extrusion ; Ooze shield / Prime tower.

Hello UltiArjan ,

When I use the dual extrusion wizard, everything gets setup nicely for me and works as I understand it should.

For example, if the parts being printed are separated then you will get separate shields for each part, like in the gif below.

And, if they're aligned, you will get a jointly constructed shield with each color getting primed along the shield before being used on the part, like in the gif below.

Am I understanding your question correctly?

No, not really, what I mean is when you print a real (aligned/combined) dual extrusion part, S3D creates ONE ooze shield (or 1 primetower).
This means both nozzles, both colors are printing the oozshield, giving polution of the wrong material / color on the nozzle and on your printed piece.

I would like the option to get 2 separate shields (split the shiled in 2 halves), each build separately by one of the colors, this means you need to use each nozzle on every layer, but thats imho worth it. The same goes for the primetowers.

Re: Dual extrusion ; Ooze shield / Prime tower.

Its been a couple of years since this topic was created but since it came up in my search, it would be nice to know if separate prime towers has been implemented.
