symmetric object with asymmetric support material
Here's an object (that I did not design) which appears to be symmetrical.

Support is not generated on the basis of the symmetry of an object, but based on the average area of a mesh based on the Support Pillar Resolution value in the settings. With your part, one of the sets of horizontal bars falls nicely within one element of the mesh and the area is flagging the generation of support, however the other set of bars does not fall so nicely, and the result is no support.
Moving the part slightly or adjusting the Support Pillar Resolution may bring the pitch of the mesh into line with the pitch of the bars, or as an alternative, you can use manual support placement to put support where the auto-generation is not able to get "right".

Reducing Support Pillar Resolution from 4mm to 3mm did the trick.
Interestingly, moving the piece around didn't make any difference. So perhaps the mesh you refer to is generated relative to the piece itself and not to the bed?
