New Da Vinci Owner

I have ordered a Da Vinci 1.0A and expect it to arrive in the next few days. I have also purchased Simplify3d and a Cart Resetter which has already showed up, and 3 brand new rolls of ABS.

My question is this, how do I install just the drivers for my Da Vinci 1.0A without installing the XYZ ware? It appears that the latest versions of the software has the firmware updates built into them so whether you want to or not it will probably try and update your firmware!

Version: 2.1.2.1
New features and improvements:
 New firmware version 2.0.X. of da Vinci 1.0A 3D printer integrated
 Modify user interface words strings
I know many of you are going to suggest that I just flash to Repetier, and I probably will at some point, but I would prefer to do it after my warranty runs out. In the mean time if I can get drivers installed and reset my cart, Simplify3d should take care of my needs nicely.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions, I am new to 3d printing and look forward to the learning curve!

Re: New Da Vinci Owner

I use the software with the stock firmware and it works fine. No need to go to Repetier.

I'm pretty sure when you install the xyz software, there will be a folder in the installation directory called "drivers" that contains all of the files you would need. You can try to install those drivers manually and just don't connect your printer to the computer if you don't want to risk any firmware upgrades.

Are the drivers on the disk, or do you have to install xyz ware to get the drivers?

Re: New Da Vinci Owner

I suspect you've read all about the issues with the XYZ machine/software/firmware updates so, I'll just say I've been using DaVinvi 1.0A with Simplify and a ZEROcart (cartridge tricker) for 9 months with stock 1.2.6 firmware.

I recommend not installing XYZware (the software that comes with it) and agree, no need for Repetier. All works well. One important thing to note - if you do install the XYZware for some reason, be sure to block out-going internet or it will auto update the firmware. I use LittleSnitch on my Mac for blocking...

The only oddity I experience is the 'Cartridge' error after printing - just need to use the machines LCD menu to show the remaining amount of filament; that will send a 'finished printing' signal to Simplify and you'll avoid having to restart the printer. Lastly, the "Repair" feature of Simplify has problems so, I use the free version of Netfabb (called Netfabb Free). Works great...

Re: New Da Vinci Owner

A lot of the problems that people have with the DaVinci are related to the cartridge chip and a break in communications with it. Cartridge resetters don't fix this problem. There is only one permanent solution - and you already know what it is.

Re: New Da Vinci Owner

Alright, my printer finally showed up and I managed a successful print!

I thought I should post what I did to get it running so that in the future when someone like me (noob) tries to find the information it’s there. All too often I was reading post where someone had an issue and simply stated “Nevermind, I got it”. Well good for them, but that’s not much help to the rest of us.

So. Here it goes…

If you go to the Hardware Setup Guide on the Support page you will find the Setup Guide for the Da Vinci. On that page are links for both the Arduino and RAMBo Drivers. I installed the Arduino and downloaded the RAMBo driver. I didn’t have my printer yet so I couldn’t install the RAMBo Driver, but I had it downloaded and saved in a known location (Downloads folder on my computer).

When I hooked up my printer via USB the computer recognized it as an unknown device. I then went to the control panel under Windows and opened the device manager. I opened the unknown device and choose update driver. I then picked browse my computer, and lastly Let me pick from list.

I choose Com Port and then browsed to the RAMBo driver I had downloaded earlier. I let it finnish and that was it. When I clicked print USB in Simplify3d it sent it straight to the printer and it started warming up.

Thanks to all that helped. I really did not want to install the XYZ ware and was able to get around it following the above steps.

Hope this Helps Noobs like me.
