origin offsets and the build grid in S3D

Recently upgraded to version 3 and found that my build grid did not align correctly to the realworld (ie prints were not printed in the same place on my build platform as they were shown in simplify 3D) For example a part printed in the center of the grid was actually shifted 20 mm towards the rear of my build platform
I figured out the origin offset but all that really did was shift my X/Y/Z indicator about 20 mm away along the y axiz from the build grid in the soft ware. This does allow me to place objects in the center, but I have to figure out the offset, which I thought was the point of the feature in the first place so I didn't have to do guesswork.
You can see how this manifests and how it kind of screws with being able to place your prints on the build platform properly.
Any idea how to fix this or is this as designed?
