Possible 'Generate-Support' Feature Bug

It appears a large bug exists when a model is partially printed with Generate Support feature turned on. I use a small minimum support area such as 2.25mm² to obtain high model precision with no sagging anywhere. I didn't check across all circumstances, but in one major circumstance I regularly need to "slice" a part to be printed by using the "stop printing at this layer" specification. In one example I stop a print at ~80mm off the print bed, and the support is being rendered as if the entire model is there, not the segment actually printing. In other words, large supports will be constructed which don't support anything at all.

Here is an example photo--I outlined problem areas which should not exist in this print. On the right is a support for a piece high on the full model, on the left is a support on the model for an overhang that would be printed above it.

Thank you!

Re: Possible 'Generate-Support' Feature Bug

Lots of people frequently use the start/stop printing at height features to print different sections of their models with different settings. So a really common scenario is that someone prints the bottom section with settings A and then the top section with settings B. Of course, S3D automatically combines all of these instructions into a single print so that it prints the entire model at once, even through the settings change through out. And of course, in this scenario you would still need to have the upper section of your model supported from below. So I'm not surprised the software does this by default.

If you don't want the default behavior, just use the custom support window. You can apply the default automatic supports and then remove and extra areas where you think you won't need it.

Oh OK, I did not realize I could remove auto supports unneeded by switching over to manual after generation. I thought it was one or the other. I'll try this, thank you.
