Extruder Failure - Could Simplify3D software Have Caused It?

Hello,

I have a two day old FlashForge Creator X Clone from MonoPrice.

On the third print I had a complete extruder failure.

At first it overheated (280C, then 405C) (or so it said on the panel) I'm not sure it really got that hot.

Anyway, on the 2nd print using Simplify3D, the extruder overheated and is not non functional.

Is it REMOTELY possible Simplify3D caused this or totally totally impossible ?

Just trying to understand what happened and why.

Re: Extruder Failure - Could Simplify3D software Have Caused

I'm pretty sure that every firmware out there these days already has built-in overtemp protection, meaning that if the temperature goes too high, the firmware detects it and shuts down the printer. This is standard functionality.

However, if the thermistor or electronics went bad, the firmware wouldn't be able to accurately read the temperature of the extruder, which means it could easily overheat. I've had this happen several times where a thermistor goes bad and then my extruder starts smoking. It has always been an electrical issue.

The software isn't going to randomly send your printer to 400C. Even if it tried, I don't even think it's capable of doing that with the firmware protections that are built-in.

Re: Extruder Failure - Could Simplify3D software Have Caused

That's what I was hoping to hear. As far as I know, noone else that has bought one of these printers from MonoPrice has ever had that issue, I just got VERY lucky.

So, they're sending me another and their response has been above average and very quick.
I would deal with them again. Also, the printer made one EXCELLENT print that I consider perfect before the failure so it is a very good printer.

Looking forward to getting the replacement.

And glad to know it couldn't be the software which I REALLY like.
