some thoughts about weight, inconsiderable extrusion and the extrusion multiplier...

Am I right that "infill extrusion width" is only used for the "real" infill and not for solid top/bottom layers?
If so, I would suggest to make this clearly recognizable in the software.
I had issues with not really dense top layers (see quality guid "holes and gaps in the top layers") and tried to get a workaround by playing with the infill extrusion width - without success.
Furthermore I noticed that the printed objects were not as heavy as they should be. Even if I - apart from the top layers - did not had the impression of underextrusion - everything else worked and looked fine.
Because I read here and there that people using s3d / Ultimaker used the "extrusion multiplier" to extrude about 10-15% more plastic, I tried playing with this too. Actually I was not a friend of this parameter... Then I weighed some parts and compared the results to the computed values of s3d and noticed an average deviation of 15%. After changing the multiplier to 1,15 most of the problems seem to be solved: The weight is in tolerance, large top layers look fine (and dense).
But...
In small areas and/or small surfaces it now seems that too much plastic is extruded. The top layer lines are almost swelling over, especially near the perimeter lines (after the 180° turn of the infill). Now this obviously is not a problem which a parameter in s3d could solve, but did anyone have or hat similar observations?
