Hello all, recieved my Lulzbot Mini last week and i can say that ive been quite pleased and impressed with what ive been able to make thus far. so the last few nights ive been trying to get the extrusion calibrated as perfectly as i can before i get too ahead of myself and try and print things that end up not fitting together as they should.

Set the Top Solid Layers to 0
Bottom Solid Layers 0
Outline/Perimeter Shells to 1
Infill Percentage to 0.
Extrusion Width .8, nozzle is .5mm

issue is as seen below, im getting 4 different wall thicknesses

changed the extrusion ,multiplier down to .88 after doing some math and got this cube.

shouldnt these walls all be even? is there some sort of other issue going on here that im missing? id like to get this extrusion stuff dialed in as best i can before i go and start to print things that are actually going to matter size was going together and fitting up properly. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks!

Can you attach your factory file? That will make it much easier to verify your settings

i was extruding too large of a width on the above attempts, this is with the width manually set to .6 and the extrusion multiplier at .88 now. tried it at 1 to start with and the print came out a little thick on the walls all around.

Your settings look good, but I noticed that you had 2.74 for the filament diameter. If I were you, I would change that to 2.85 (which is what most LulzBot users tend to use). That's typically the standard setting that is used there. That will make your extrusion multipliers a bit less extreme. I would also recommend doing a test where you print 3 outline perimeters, and increase the extrusion multiplier until all 3 perimeters are solidly bonded together. That's a good final test to do once you think you got the single perimeter measurement close to ideal.

The filament doesn't measure 2.85 though. That's why I have it set at 2.74.

It was first suggested that when doing the rough steps I turn the mm/min from 100 down to 40, so I did that and my esteps went from 847 to 821. so after getting my esteps with the slower manual extrusion i printed out some more cubes.

.6mm manual extrusion width
.1 layer height

got the 4 walls of .63/.65/.65/.65

took those numbers, did the math and it came out to be .93 on the extrusion multiplier. so did 93% of current esteps (821) and got 763.5 printed another cube and it was all pretty much dead nuts .60 wall thickness.

then went on a printed another of of the 5mm calibration cubes at a 95 percent infill and .1 layer height and pics are below.

I'm still concerned about the nozzle drag on the right hand side of these parts. I assume that's still due to overextruding?

im not exactly sure what to look for with this test to be honest other then according to the wiki there should be just the slightest of gaps between the lines with a 95 percent infill. i will say that the lower estep value seems to have much sharper corners.

these cube steps are nice to see since you print it at 250% size as per the wiki, but to do an entire steps print would be a few hours so tomorrow im going to do a few of the solid 20mm test cubes and see what that does since those wont take so long to do, and i want to be able to see how the top layers come out.

First question. on the infill layers it seems as if the nozzle is dragging on the last extruded layer, what could be the cause of that problem? overextrusion? retraction?




printed a test fit part and it doesnt fit, not even close actually. although i do think the top layer looks pretty good. at least much better then my top layers were when i started out this calibration process. measuring the center of that S the plug is 5.23mm and the piece it should pop into measures 5.03mm
