Extruders turning off at start of print

This post is moved from an earlier thread about extrusion failure. see priming extruder issue by HauntedMaestro » Sun Feb 14, 2016 1:27 pm

When I attempt to print, the head moves to the front right corner of the bed, then extrudes a bit of filament, then begins to move the print head as if printing the item. But the printer does not extrude anything. I went back to some test prints that came with my Flashforge Creator Pro. I sliced using the RelicatorG/Skeiforge package that came with the printer, and they print just fine. I went back to some things I had previously sliced/printed using S3D, they failed. I just now downloaded a new thing from Thingiverse, sliced it using the default Process1, watched the preview and it looked ok, but the print failed.

I also use the load filament utility in my printer to verify that ABS does extrude as expected, and let it run for several minutes. Prints still fail because no filament is extruded after the initial spritz at the corner of the plate.

Help!
thanks

Re: Extruders turning off at start of print

IN an different thread, I received this response

But my guess would be that your nozzle is too close to the bed, which is why it doesn't extrude. You can read more ideas here: https://www.simplify3d.com/support/prin ... t-of-print

I leveled the bed using the gauge supplied by Flashforge. I printed a test print supplied by FF. It printed perfectly. SO I don't think the problem is nozzle-bed spacing.

My problem appears to be someplace in the printer settings. I tried many things, but the result was always the same, If I sliced using S3D, the printer would extrude a little at the right front edge of the plate. Then turn off the extruder and just go through the motions. If I sliced the same print with the RepG/skeinforge software that came with the printer, it would print. Finally, I restored the default settings for my Flashforge Creator Pro. and behold! builds sliced with S3D are being completed!

So the question is what printer setting(s) cause the extruder to shut off?

tnx

And the answer is......none.

My advice is...as quoted by yourself:
But my guess would be that your nozzle is too close to the bed, which is why it doesn't extrude.
And a suggestion to try. In the GCode tab of your settings, change the Z-Axis Global offset to say 0.2 mm....and try printing.

Re: Extruders turning off at start of print

Had this issue as well. It was a command on my start code. Set temps or something of that sort. Deleted it and then everything worked.
