Infill extrusion width

Does anyone have any views on optimal infill extrusion width?

Is it better to have a tight matrix of very fine planes?

Or thicker planes with larger voids between them?

Say you have a 0.4mm nozzle, you might decide to print a larger object with an extrusion width (for perimeters) of 0.8mm.

If the object has 20% infill, a 0.8mm nozzle width is going to yield some large voids.

So I'd be inclined to set the infill extrusion width to less, and have more "cells".

What strategies are other people employing?

Re: Infill extrusion width

I usually only increase the infill extrusion width if the infill looks like it isn't a solid line (meaning it's breaking up and sputtering around). If you increase the value too much, it will limit how fast you can travel since you can't move really fast AND extrude lots of plastic. You will eventually have to limit one of those (either move slower or extrude less).

But in general, I've used 100% infill extrusion width for many of my printers without problems. On a few I bumped it up to 150-200%, but never above that.
