Profiles & Filaments

Hi all,

I have been watching the videos and I am not sure if I have overlooked something or not. Anyways, I recently put a new nozzle in my machine, Lulzbot Mini and so I have created a new Profile called, "Lulzbot Mini - E3D Nozzle" my plan with this 'Profile' is to start adding in different filaments as I use them. So Far I have added PETG to the Materials List.

Recently I have been working to dial in the settings of PETG. So after I make some progress in the settings for the print I have been clicking the 'Update Profile' button in hopes all changes would be saved under the profile "Lulzbot Mini - E3D Nozzle". I typically put my computer to sleep each night but recently did an update and it restarted the computer, After this restart, PETG was still in the Materials List but the settings I used were back to original.

I am just wondering, is there something I am missing? As I add new materials to my Profile I am going to need to save settings daily until I get my settings are dialed in perfectly. The settings that didnt get saved were, top/bottom/perimeter, first layer height, width, speed, temperatures.

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I cant really afford to loose my settings, I should back them up but in the mean time Id like to know what I am doing wrong.

Thanks all!

Re: Profiles & Filaments

It sounds like you're doing everything right. If you haven't already, I would strongly recommend watching their tutorial video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFynhtvPBPQ

In addition, after you click "Update Profile", you may want to go to File > Export FFF Profile to save that profile to your hard drive so that you can open it in a text editor. If you scroll down to the bottom, you can see what changes the <autoConfigureMaterial> sections make. That's an easy way to verify what each auto configure option does.

Re: Profiles & Filaments

I use a ROBO3d with auto level. I just got a roll of eSUN PETG , I used the stock ABS settings and got good results.
I was amazed the dimensions were very good. I printed a 1inch cube it measured 1.02, 1.02, 1.05 .
My question, is there a profile that you recommend for PETG?

Re: Profiles & Filaments

If it works, why change?

WIth that said, ABS can have a higher extrusion temp than PETG needs. Look at the label on the spool, it will list the recommended operating temps. If you're within that limit with your ABS profile, then it should be fine.

Since PETG oozes a little more than ABS keep an eye out for stringiness or blobs on the surface. Lower the temp by 2-5C and check the print. Oozing can be mitigated by more retraction also.
