Looking at being a new user

I have recently purchased one of the CTC FDM 3D printers, but not very satisfied with it. Simplify3D has been recommended by several sources as a better solution for slicing etc.

However, this is not the main reason I am looking at the software for use with a new type of DLP style 3D printer, and wonder if the software is suitable.

They supply Creation Workshop with the machine, but I am hearing a few warning bells about it.

I am sure I can get the necessary dwell times for the light source to be on for each layer, and such things as retraction distance between layers.

I am wondering if Simplify3D will be a one hit approach for both machines.

Welcome to the boards!

I've seen people use it with SLA printers, but I'm not sure about DLP. I think those use a different format (PNG slices instead of gcode)

Does yours use PNG slice images too? Is there even gcode involved at all?

I'd also be interested to know what problems you've been hearing about with CreationWorkshop?

PS - I'd say S3D is worth it for the CTC alone! It was way better than the stock stuff they provided with that thing :D

With regard to CW, it is more of a general feeling. I am not seeing much in totally negative views, nor am I finding people singing it's praises.

The interface seems somewhat 'primitive' and being locked into an annual licence fee which stops you using a machine if not renewed, feels draconic.

I do not know how it works, under the hood. So no idea if it uses G Code.

It looks like the new printer is controlled by GCode.
